When is the best time to book a newborn session?

How long do your newborn sessions go for?
I normally recommend clients booking their session months prior so that I can guarantee your booking, as I do book out. I normally like to photograph babies within their first 7-12 days of being born, as during this time babies are still quite sleepy and are easier to pose and settle during your session. However I will always do my best to fit most clients in where I can.
If your baby is older than 2 weeks, please don't feel like you have missed the window as I have photographed many babies 2 -12 weeks old and with a few extra tips for on the day I can still capture those sweet newborn poses.
I always photograph my newborn sessions in the mornings when babies are generally at their happiest and most settled. Also the morning light that comes into my studio is best in the mornings , as its soft on skin tones.
My mini newborn sesisons go for one to one and half hours, where as my Posed newborn sessions go for up to 3 hours. Getting babies into those tiny little curled up positions takes time settling and feeding bubs.

The best time is normally 1 hour prior to sunset, also known as the golden hour. It is when the afternoon light is soft and warm on skin tones. Depending on your childs age and the time of the year I normally book anywhere from 1-2 hours prior. As the sun sets at 8pm in summer and therefore can be too late for families with young children.
What to wear:
Clothes are an important part of your photo shoot and I definitely recommend clients to take their time choosing what their children and family should wear on the day. I recommend anything that you feel most comfortable in.
The best way to accomplish this is by choosing a colour palette and varying the shades. I normally recommend more muted colour tones that compliment each other than bold bright patterns that can date over time.
Normally I recommend to start with the children's outfits first, then mum next & dad last. Little girls always look beautiful in dresses or skirts they can twirl in and simple T shirts or collared shirt for the boys.
Yes! I am always happy to reschedule due to the weather, as I want to make sure my clients get the best weather possible for your session as I know this isn't something my clients do often.
